Wing -Strake Joint Cuffs

June 2005 - While doing some of the other modifications to the plane this summer, I decided to make some permanent cuffs to seal the gap between the wing and the strake. I taped a sheet of clear plastic over the joint and layed up 3 plies of BID across the joint about 2 inches wide and running the length of the joint on both top and bottom of the wing. The underside was a real bear as it wanted to drop off the plastic due to gravity. I used another piece of plastic to trap it and taped it to the underside of the wing. When it was all secure, I let it cure of the day. After pealing it off, I trimmed the edges, filled them with micro and painted them to match the plane. I attached them with clear silicone. No more tape on the joints!
